Welcome to Grace and Sami's Home Page
The Coast to Coast Walk
On Friday 28 July 2006 they set off from St Bees on the first leg of their 190 mile walk.
The Walkers:
Grace Plant - Runner and mother
Sami Plant - Grace's daughter, aged 14 (will be 15 when they finish)
Sue Lansdell - Grace's friend and walking companion
Sarah Lansdell - Sue's daughter and Sammy's best friend (age 15)
The Purpose:
Sami and Sarah are using this walk as a way of raising money for their
month long trip to South America in July 2007. They are doing a "World
Challenge" project in Venezuela - where they will be undertaking a variety of
voluntary tasks in local schools and hospitals. Some of the money raised will also go to
the "Make A Wish Foundation". This UK based charity makes dreams come true for
sick children.
The Walk:
The 190 mile Coast to Coast walk starts in St Bees (Cumbria) and finishes
in Robin Hoods Bay (Yorkshire). The challenging, unsigned route devised by Alfred
Wainwright to link the Irish Sea and the North sea via 3 national parks: the Lake
District, Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Popular and scenic, but notably remote
and demanding, it was named the second best walk in the world in a recent experts' poll.
